I always knew that the spirit of a Limmud conference was something special – but this year the 900+ participants at Limmud NY have had a unique chance to experience it. Thanks to some emails and automated messages on my cell phone informing me of problems with the heat and hot water at the hotel, I boarded my flight on Friday, January 16 not knowing whether I’d be attending Limmud NY '09 or spending an unexpected weekend with relatives in NJ. By the time I landed, the organizers had decided to go through with it. The boiler was working and they were confident that the buildings would heat up and the conference could go on.
